The annual FT Innovative Lawyers competition is the brainchild of Reena SenGupta of RSG Consulting. In 2005, the London-based journalist hit on the idea of ranking law firms based on their innovations and partnering with FT on spreading the word. In the early years, they only dabbled in in-house innovation, but recently they’ve cranked up the corporate coverage, as evidenced at their annual North America recognition ceremony, held last month in New York City. Interspersed with the law firm honorees – Orrick (most innovative firm overall), McGuireWoods (most innovative firm for the business of law) and Cravath (most innovative firm for legal expertise) – FT announced a full array of in-house awards. Here are the big winners and the category winners. For the complete shortlist of finalists, visit the FT website at bit.ly/FTAwards2018.
