50 Women to Watch: Maria Laura Farrapeira

Maria Laura Farrapeira, General Counsel and VP, AB Mauri, a division of Associated British Foods

Maria Laura Farrapeira is a corporate and commercial counsel with more than 30 years’ experience in M&A, negotiations, corporate and commercial affairs. She is a passionate leader with track record in the creation of high performing and interdisciplinary teams, and management with complexity and uncertainty.

During the last 17 years, she has been working as General Counsel for the Hispanoamerica Region of AB Mauri, a division of Associated British Foods, and member of several Boards of management and directors. In this role, she immerses herself in the ESG world, first with Environmental deep experience in the Region and Governance and Compliance responsibilities.

Before joining ABF, Farrapeira worked for Brons & Salas, an Argentine Leading Law Firm as a senior associate, specialized in Corporate and Business Law, leading the Corporate Department. Previously, she worked as Legal Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers Tax and Law Dept. (for 11 years) specializing in M&A and tax matters.

Farrapeira has a legal degree from the Universidad Catolica Argentina and a Fellowship by the College of Law from London, in the Fifth International Practice Diploma Programme coordinated with the International Bar Association and also a Fellowship in the “Top Management Program” by the Business School (IAE) of the Austral University in Argentina in 2007 (PAD).

What advice would you offer your younger self?
Be more confident in yourself. Fight for your dreams.

Please describe your proudest individual or team achievement.
I'm most proud of our team achievements - how we navigated through a great union conflict, survived COVID, how we cope with our regional teams in all fronts, and our inclusion programmes.

Kindly share the most influential piece of advice (professional or personal) you have received?
Always negotiate with a win/win approach. Listen attentively.

What are your favorite books, professional sports, entertainment and/or extracurricular activities?
I love English literature, music, nature, travel, family and friends and art in general.
