Corporate And Securities Law Will Be "Practice Of The Decade"

Law school graduates take note: 24 percent of attorneys recently polled said corporate and securities law will offer the greatest number of employment opportunities over the next 10 years. Litigation also is expected to generate job growth; the practice area received 21 percent of the response.

The survey was developed by Robert Half Legal, a leading staffing service specializing in attorneys, paralegals and other highly skilled legal professionals. It was conducted by an independent research firm and includes responses from 300 attorneys among the largest law firms and corporations in the U.S. and Canada. All respondents have at least three years of experience in the legal field.

Lawyers were asked, "Which one of the following legal practice areas, in your opinion, will offer the greatest number of job opportunities over the next 10 years?" Their responses follow: corporate and securities - 24 percent; litigation - 21 percent; intellectual property -16 percent; international law - 16 percent; environmental - 12 percent; commercial real estate - 5 percent; other - 3 percent, and don't know - 3 percent.
