Leading international law firm Clifford Chance announced that long-time Tax partner Philip Wagman has been appointed to serve as chair of the New York State Bar Association's (NYSBA) Tax Section for a one-year term. Wagman has been an Executive Committee Member since 2011, and an officer of the Tax Section since 2020.
The NYSBA Tax Section actively engages with the tax community, including both practitioners and government officials by providing nonpartisan thought leadership, particularly around new tax rules and regulations, at the federal, state, and city levels. In his role as chair, Wagman will oversee the Section's goals to promote sound tax policy, advance professional development, and support continuing legal education for tax attorneys.
Speaking about the appointment, Wagman said, "As a NYSBA Tax Section member for many years, I have witnessed personally the incredible support and guidance offered to professionals in our field. The provision of information and guidance from the Section is second-to-none. Further, my time with the Section has meant that fellow members have now become close friends and I am honored to take on the Chair role as we continue our mission to address the key issues facing tax professionals in the year ahead."
Wagman joined Clifford Chance in 2003 and became a partner in 2005. His practice focuses on the tax aspects of domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, restructurings and financing transactions. He is recognized as a leading lawyer in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and in The Legal 500. Wagman earned his B.A. from Yale College, his J.D. from Yale Law School, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law School.
