Global law firm Clifford Chance has announced today that Michael Grenfell will join the firm as a Partner in its Global Antitrust Group, based in London, as the firm continues to bolster its offering in the technology, financial services, consumer goods and healthcare sectors.
Michael brings a breadth of experience, having joined from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) where he served as the Executive Director of Enforcement. Prior to that, he was an antitrust partner at Norton Rose Fulbright.
Nelson Jung, Partner and Head of London Antitrust at Clifford Chance, says: "Michael's appointment is testament to our commitment to meeting the complex antitrust and competition needs of our clients globally. His deep expertise is set to further bolster our London and global antitrust team's capacity to guide clients through the intricate and rapidly evolving landscape of competition and consumer enforcement as well as associated regulation. In an era where businesses must navigate competition law with precision, the ability to engage effectively with competition authorities and grasp the broader policy context is crucial. Michael's deep knowledge of the CMA's operations and its powers under the newly-enacted Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act will be invaluable."
Michael said: "I am thrilled at this opportunity to contribute to such a dynamic, global team and to advise on cutting-edge competition law matters. I look forward to joining Clifford Chance and leveraging my experience to deliver strategic insights and robust solutions to clients, helping them to navigate the complexities of the current regulatory environment with confidence."
The global antitrust team has experienced significant demand in the market, reflecting the growing need for expert legal guidance. In March, Clifford Chance successfully represented Spotify in the European Commission's antitrust investigation against Apple for app store abuses. Additionally, the team advised Arçelik on the CMA's Phase 2 clearance of the formation of its new standalone home appliance business.
