FTI Consulting, Inc. announced the appointment of Matt Shirk as a Managing Director in the Transactions practice within the firm’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.
Based in Houston, Mr. Shirk brings extensive experience leading buy- and sell-side efforts spanning financial, operational and commercial diligence on several hundred transactions. For over 20 years, Mr. Shirk has developed experience in a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, power and utilities, chemicals, manufacturing, industrial and construction services, software, retail, insurance and banking.
At FTI Consulting, Mr. Shirk will focus on growing the transactions diligence footprint and enhancing the firm’s services in the Texas market, which includes a large base of Fortune 1000 companies, high M&A transaction volume and outsized capital and human resource inflows.
“Matt’s broad industry base and varied background covering M&A, operations, strategy, finance and accounting will provide the diversity of thought and skill necessary to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients,” said Scott Bingham, Co-Leader of the Global Transactions practice at FTI Consulting. “His range of knowledge provides an intuitive understanding of all aspects of the deal life cycle. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
Mr. Shirk joins FTI Consulting from Magellan HDD, an underground utility construction services firm, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. At Magellan HDD, he secured financing, designed all back-office systems and processes and provided strategic direction and guidance. Before that, Mr. Shirk was Division President, Market Solutions at VMI, an e-procurement, vendor management and supply chain software solutions provider. Previously, he held senior management positions at EY, including Vice President of Parthenon, EY’s strategy and operations group. Mr. Shirk began his career in banking at Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Shirk said, “Texas is a high-priority market for transaction services. I am delighted to join a team of experts with a unique combination of brand awareness and institutional knowledge that is dedicated to helping clients across industries navigate the entirety of the deal life cycle.”
The addition of Mr. Shirk to the Transactions practice is the latest in a series of hires that solidify FTI Consulting’s continued investment in end-to-end transactions expertise in the Texas area specifically. In January, the firm welcomed energy industry veteran Cedric Burgher as a Senior Managing Director in Houston, and in December, merger integration and carve-outs expert Katy Quintanilla joined as a Managing Director in Dallas.
