Law Business Media announces the acquisition of electronic newsletter publisher Pinhawk

Owner of Corporate Counsel Business Journal, In-House Ops and In-House Legal Tech Expands News Aggregation and Database Marketing Capabilities

Law Business Media today announced the acquisition of the assets of PinHawk LLC, a privately held electronic newsletter and web alert service based in New York. PinHawk distributes daily, industry-specific electronic newsletters to lawyers and other professionals, their clients, and their prospects. PinHawk emails are either private labeled for clients or distributed under the PinHawk brand.

“We are delighted to welcome PinHawk to the Law Business Media family,” said Kristin Calve, co-founder and CEO of the company. “We have known and admired PinHawk founder Joe Bookman for many years. He is a genuine legal technology and publishing visionary.”

Before launching PinHawk in 2005, Bookman co-founded and built two successful technology companies, including CompInfo, whose software, LawPack, was widely adopted by law firms and corporate law departments. CompInfo is now part of OpenText.

"We are thrilled to be a part of the Law Business Media universe,” Bookman said. “Our combined editorial and technical resources will enable us to deliver even more high-quality content to our audience.”

Along with its valuable news content and technology platform, PinHawk brings experienced editorial talent to the CCBJ team, including:

  • Jeff Brandt, editor of PinHawk’s Law Technology Daily Digest
  • Constance Ard and John DiGilio, co-editors of Librarian News Digest
  • Bill Lipner, editor of Legal Administrator Daily
  • Rees Morrison, editor of Leading Law Departments
  • Joe Lamport, editor of Law Firm Marketing
  • Sue Silverman, editor of Law Firm News
  • Yiorgos Athanassatos, editor of Hedge Fund News
  • Fran Susino, editor of Economics Research and News

In addition, Mike Wisz, the lead PinHawk software developer over the last decade, will continue to enhance and support the PinHawk technology platform. Mike has worked on a wide range of projects, including computational protein design, a novel patent search tool, and a popular mobile game for pet owners.

“The acquisition of PinHawk speaks directly to our mission of providing information and analytics to meet the growing appetite of legal and other professionals for content important to their professional and personal development,” Calve said. “We look forward to further developing and delivering superior content to our elite and discriminating readers.”

The PinHawk acquisition marks another transformative event for LBM. The company in December 2019 added a team of media and marketing veterans to its senior executive team: Neil Signore assumed the role of Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Events; Jennifer Coniglio joined as Vice President for Events and Special Projects; and Matthew Tortora serves as the company’s Senior Database Director.

PinHawk aggregates news from thousands of sources to shape its daily topical and industry-specific electronic newsletters for the legal community. These include Law Firm News & Press Releases; Law Technology Daily Digest; Legal Administrator Daily; Librarian News Digest; Legal Marketing Brief; Leading Law Departments; Corporate Legal News; Economic Research and News; Hedge Fund News; NYC Real Estate News; Securities News; and Bankruptcy News. PinHawk also provides customized daily emails for law firms, tracking client and partner news along with other law firm news.
