Surveys everywhere! - Law Technology Digest

Perhaps I should have labeled this newsletter the "SURVEY EDITION." We have Thomson Reuters' "Future of Professionals Report." We also have the LexisNexis "International Legal Generative AI Survey." And we've got lots of smart people weighing in on them. In terms of scope and scale, the TR report apparently deals with "1,200 professionals from the legal, tax and accounting, and risk professions. The Lexis report deals with "7,950 lawyers, law students, and consumers across the U.S., U.K., Canada, and France." With six posts to digest, I'm going to cherry pick key parts from them. Jean O'Grady picks up on TRs use of "sentiment analysis for measuring and representing the impact of AI." Zombie apocalypse at the one and and winning the lottery at the other. On the Lexis report, Joe Patrice contributes "Surprise, surprise... the US is behind the curve." and "...but I know the American media lost its collective mind over a couple of attorneys mistakenly using ChatGPT as a caselaw research tool and grandstanding judges threw gasoline on that story." Stephen Embry notes, "But here is the rub.78% of the clients expect their lawyers to tell them when they use AI tools." and asks "What's An Outside Lawyer To Do?" Bob Ambrogi notes, "Most lawyers have at least some concerns about the ethical implications of generative AI. A third of lawyers say they have significant or fundamental concerns about the ethical implications." Read more at:
