For more than 10 years, FT has been recognizing law firms for innovation. In its 2017 North America report, released in December, it added in-house legal teams to the mix.
Topping the first list was GE, but it was #16 that caught our eye: DXC Technology, formed just last April when Computer Sciences Corp. combined with Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s IT services division. The new company’s GC, William Deckelman (formerly CSC’s GC), immediately set out to forge a new model for the delivery of legal services: Legal 2.0. A cornerstone of that model arose from Deckelman’s biggest challenge: a huge inventory of contracts – 30,000 and growing. He turned to managed legal services provider United Lex and its contract management platform, a move that earned him FT’s top honor as the most innovative GC in North America – and kudos from his new client, which saw new business wins go from 64% to 84%. “Never before would I have thought of legal as an enabler,” says Larry Stack, DXC’s senior VP for global sales.
