I know that not even human resources was immune from the move online in the pandemic, but I have to admit I was surprised to learn about pre-recorded job interviews. My oldest child just went through the process and aside from the video component, it sounded very traditional to me. But it seems this pre-recorded style are getting upgraded or augmented by AI. Zahira Jaser and Dimitra Petrakaki write, "These interviews typically shorten the hiring process, making it cheaper for companies to find the right candidates." They go on to note, "This shift has forever changed the experience of jobseekers, and not always for the better. Today, younger job seekers looking for their first role, placement, or internship are likely to face a bot at their first interview, not a human." I find interviewing candidates for jobs difficult. I like to get multiple people involved so we can compare notes. I'm not sure how I feel about this.
