Simon Zinger, general counsel of Dentsu Aegis Network, a global marketing services group, has launched a drive to convince legal and compliance leaders to commit to an oath to drive positive changes across the profession, their organizations and society. Inspired by the medical profession’s Hippocratic Oath, the “General Counsel Oath” focuses on personal behaviors that support social justice and other progressive issues. A number of senior in-house lawyers are supporting the initiative. “This is a much needed initiative at a critical time," said Thomson Reuters CLO Thomas Kim in a LinkedIn post. "I am all in." Zinger says his goal is to raise awareness so GCs around the world commit to the oath and take action. “Their commitment would naturally be followed by a shift in awareness and behavior – which should then lead to the broader intended consequence of positively impacting organizations and society,” he says.
