"Experimental" AI? - Law Technology Digest

I don't usually see articles from RollingStone Magazine and I have to admit complete ignorance when it comes to the group The Fugees, their music or one of its members, Pras Michel. But this post caught my eye because I think I'm reading the use of AI as a potential factor in malpractice. Michel seems to be in a lot of trouble, but now so does his former lawyer, David Kenner. In addition to other bad things, the post says, "Kenner allegedly 'used an experimental artificial intelligence (AI) program to draft the closing argument, ignoring the best arguments and conflating the charged schemes.'" (Wednesday question to ponder - Is all AI experimental?) Kenner bragged that the AI "turned hours or days of legal work into seconds," and there is an accusation that he has "an undisclosed financial stake" in the AI tool and "they experimented with it during Michel's trial so they could issue a press release afterward promoting the program - a clear conflict of interest." A little Googling and I was able to find out the AI in question was from EyeLevel.AI and they tout and boast about its use in that trial on their website. I plan to keep my eye on this!
