Publisher's Note June 2016

The June issue of Metropolitan Corporate Counsel offers wonderful new developments and features. As we pledged in the last issue, we will continue to offer our readers more of a voice within the paper and on our website. In our cover feature, an interview with Megan Belcher Vice President & Chief Counsel at ConAgra Foods, we discuss women in law and how we, as a community, can help each other. Key to our conversation was the power of storytelling and how sharing both the ups and downs of your journey can inspire and inform others in the profession. As part of our commitment to supporting both gender and racial diversity, MCC is getting involved with more organizations whose mission are to support diversity. And, we are looking to create our own initiatives with events and online forums. If you’re interested in working with our team or connecting us with yours, please email or call me directly at 844-889-8822.

We are also pleased to report on the first installment of our four-part dinner roundtable series on risk. We were thrilled to have 12 senior in-house MCC readers and an esteemed group from Clifford Chance join us for a lovely dinner and discussion at Le Bernadin in New York City. The first topic we tackled was cybersecurity, with Clifford’s Dan Silver leading the discussion andsharing insights gained from his time as chief of the National Security and Cybercrime Section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. If you are interested in participating in such events, please reach out to let us know.

In this issue, we are also pleased to offer a robust Special Section about doing business in the European Union. The section leads off with an interview with Vassilis Akritidis and Yves Melin of McGuireWoods and Jikke Biermasz of Kneppelhout & Korthals who discuss Green Lane, a newly formed collaboration among law firms in the EU specializing in trade and customs in the region. The section also includes contributions from Fish & Richardson, McNees and RVM.

Our new online publication, IN-HOUSE TECH, dedicated to in-house technology, corporate compliance and data security, is off to a terrific start. Please continue to share the site with your IT and litigation support teams, as well as outside counsel. They can email [email protected] to receive news and announcements from this new publication.

Our popular In-House Ops section offers an array of terrific contributions, including Jennifer Brennan’s “What do I need to know about technology?” and Backstory’s look at “The In-House Counsel Revolution,” which includes quotes from our discussion with the author, legendary GE General Counsel Ben Heineman. I continue to look for new opportunities to connect with readers and contributors. Please email me at [email protected] with your suggestions for new topics, publications or events we can host in your area.
