Publisher’s Note

As we look back and reflect on 2014 and launch into 2015, we are so grateful to all of the firms and other organizations that have supported The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel over the past 22 years.

For those of you who are newer to MCC, I would love to share a little bit of our history. It was 22 years ago when Al Driver and his wife Martha started MCC. Al had been the longtime general counsel at J.C. Penny and Martha had worked in M&A for TIAA-CREF. When they left those positions, these two dedicated, well-educated and successful professionals decided to devote the next leg of their careers to helping in-house counsel access information supplied by the best of the best in the legal profession. In his work in-house, Al had determined there was a gap in the knowledge available to him and other corporate colleagues, and he and Martha were determined to fill that gap. Thus was The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel born, and for more than two decades it has helped ensure that in-house counsel enjoy ready access to information designed to help them manage their legal departments and keep current on trends and developments in areas of the law relevant to them from top outside counsel at elite law firms. For many in-house lawyers, these contributors were friends and colleagues from their law schools and former firms. It was a natural, fruitful partnership.

Supporting firms, listed in the Honor Roll, consistently have taken the time to work with our editors to develop content and information specially designed for our in-house readers. Contributions from firm leaders as well as experts in key practice areas such as banking and finance, litigation, intellectual property, corporate governance, tax and many others have enabled MCC to shine as a clutter-free source of the most up-to-date information for our readers.

Over the years, we’ve developed our coverage to include new areas of keen interest to in-house counsel such as cybersecurity, the development of new e-discovery tools, massive regulatory change in the banking and finance sector, the rise of new practice groups such as international risk management, and much more.

As the new publisher of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel, I am proud to continue our mission of serving amazing content to our readership. To that end, I am happy to share some of our exciting plans for 2015.

In the coming year, we plan to deliver more targeted content, including coverage of specific sectors like technology, media and telecommunications, food and beverage, healthcare and medical devices, sports and entertainment and more. We will offer deeper coverage of licensing and technology transactions, trademarks, international arbitration, antitrust and competition and more. In addition, we will cover key markets like Latin America, the EU, Japan and the Middle East, to name a few.

MCC will continue to expand our online offering and will continue to publish CLE and other key events in your neighborhood. Check our calendar of events to find local bar association, law firm and other events, all in one place and selected specifically for our corporate counsel readers. You can also keep up with MCC by following us on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and Facebook.
