The development of robotics will go hand in hand with rapid development in AI and near-zero latency telecom infrastructure. Autonomous robotics using deep AI will revolutionize the industry and the home, creating the need for substantive regulations regarding security, safety and privacy. Isaac Asimov penned his famous three laws of robotics in the 1950s, but we are still decades away from achieving AI sophisticated enough to operate under these laws.
Well before that, there will be significant challenges to the robotics industry. As AI grows more complex, we will be increasingly incapable of rederiving decisions made by it. Any effective legal framework around autonomous robotics will demand transparency into decision-making, potentially requiring companies to share their most valuable asset – the technology behind the AI – by regulation or legal discovery.
