Women Lawyers Share Advice For Success

DRI's Women in the Courtroom Committee has scheduled a two-day meeting to help women lawyers maximize their potential in the courtroom, law firm and community.Sharing Success - A Seminar for Women Lawyers has been scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 25 and 26, at the Westin Kierland in Scottsdale Arizona.

The conference begins on Wednesday evening, March 24, at 6 p.m. with a networking reception and dinner. Thursday's sessions run from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and are followed by a networking reception and dinner, and on Friday, sessions run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The seminar will afford women lawyers the opportunity to meet and network with other female lawyers from the U.S. and Canada; to hear what in-house counsel have to say about alternative billing arrangements and how to be successful in the current economic climate; and how to improve your trial skills as a female lawyer. Attendees will learn how to handle the impossible witness, how to be successful at the "business" of being a lawyer, how to use juror perceptions of women litigators to your advantage, and navigating the e-marketing maze of the 21st century.

On Thursday, Jane E. Bockus of Clark Thomas & Winters PC and Chilton Davis Varner of King & Spalding LLP will present Leading the Trial Team as a Female Lawyer. Arin N. Reeves of The Athens Group in Chicago will address Generational Differences, and Jodi R. Smith will explain why you should talk to strangers.

Mentoring for female lawyers will be presented on Friday by Sharon E. Jones, Jones Diversity Group, and will be followed by Beyond the Billable Hour - How Companies are Changing the Way They Work with Outside Counsel with three presenters: Bridgette A. Berry-Smith, Taco Bell Corp., Julie S. Mazza, E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co., and Patricia E. Ratner, Electric Insurance Co.
