WESFACCA Seminar Will Probe EEOC Discrimination Initiative

WESFACCA this month is planning a CLE seminar titled EEOC's Discrimination Initiative.

The program will take place on Thursday, May 17 from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Woodway Country Club, Darien, CT.

In 2006, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission adopted a number of new strategies for combating systemic workplace discrimination. This initiative places renewed emphasis on class-type claims challenging generally applicable personnel policies and practices on a disparate impact theory. The panel will discuss: the task force report and recommendations that led to the EEOC's systemic discrimination initiative; legal principles and case law pertaining to the disparate impact theory of liability; application of these principles to particular policies and practices, such as employee testing, and practical measures for avoiding or minimizing the risk of disparate impact claims.

Speakers will be Lawrence Peikes, Wiggin and Dana, and Jeanne Matthews, General Electric Company.
