Upcoming DC Bar Program To ReviewERISA And Health Plan Hot Topics

So much recent legislative and litigation activity surrounds ERISA health plans, that every ERISA lawyer can benefit from a comprehensive analysis of the latest developments by a panel of highly experienced ERISA practitioners. The DC Bar has assembled just such a group to inform attendees of their upcoming program,ERISA and Health Plans: Hot Topics for 2009. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, and conclude at 9:15 p.m. at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1101 K Street NW, Washington, D.C.

Participants in this course will learn more about how the lower courts have been applying Metropolitan Life v. Glenn since last year's Supreme Court decision, and whether any greater clarity has been brought to cases involving ERISA's standard of review and conflict of interest issues. The assembled panel will also analyze recent preemption cases, as well as recent decisions involving the enforceability of state limitations on discretionary clauses in insurance contracts and ERISA remedies.

The panel will feature Elizabeth Hopkins, U.S. Department of Labor; Phyllis Borzi, O'Donoghue & O'Donoghue; Denise Clark, The Law Office of Denise M. Clark; Mary Signorille, AARP Foundation Litigation; Karen Handorf, Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld & Toll, P.L.L.C.; and Martha Wagner, Venable LLP.
