Two-Day Taxation Conference To Be Held In Austin

The University Of Texas School Of Law has scheduled a two-day tax law conference on Wednesday and Thursday, December 9 and 10, at the Hyatt Regency in Austin.

The seminar will begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. On Thursday it will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

It will be followed by Stanley M. Johanson's 2009 Estate Planning Workshop on Friday, December 11, also at the Hyatt Regency.

Wednesday's topics include Margin Tax Update, a panel discussion with moderator Cynthia M. Ohlenforst, K & L Gates LLP and panelists Jerry Howard Oxford, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, and Michael B. Seay, Martens, Seay & Todd. The luncheon presenter, Eric Solomon, former assistant secretary, U.S. Treasury Department, will discuss Tax Shelters: Regulation and Policy - a look at the recent history of tax shelter phenomenon. Another panel discussion moderated by Farley P. Katz, Strasburger & Price, LLP, titled There's a New Sherriff in Town: What Practitioners Need to Worry about as Preparers, will end Wednesday's program.

Among Thursday's topics are Workouts and Troubled Businesses; Employment and Other Tax Issues in Bankruptcy; Tax Legislation in 2010 and Beyond with George K. Yin, Edwin S. Cohen Distinguished Professor of Law and Taxation, UVA Law School; Bringing It All Back Home: Unreported Offshore Assets; and President Obama's Tax Plans with Calvin H. Johnson of The University of Texas School of Law.
