Expanding the firm’s global, UK, and European intellectual property (IP) practice, Morgan Lewis today welcomes Tim Powell as a partner resident in London. Tim, a co-founder of London-based IP boutique Powell Gilbert, represents clients in high-stakes patent litigation before UK and European courts in the life sciences and technology industries.
“With significant changes anticipated in the European patent courts and patent assertion throughout the entire EU, our clients require careful, specialized guidance,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Tim’s stellar reputation and skillful coordination of complex, cross-border disputes will enhance our global IP practice capabilities in cutting-edge sectors where IP protection is key to our clients’ success.”
Tim helps protect companies from risks related to patent enforcement, regulatory issues, and global IP strategies to ensure they remain competitive and compliant. Tim leverages his complex, multijurisdictional, and cross-border patent disputes experience to support clients, particularly biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, as regulatory entities and courts (specifically the Unified Patent Court) reshape patent enforcement across the EU.
“In recent months, we have strategically added to our European and UK bench, notably with the arrivals of IP litigators Hiroshi Sheraton in London and Drs. Alex Klett and Christoph Mikyska in Munich. Tim’s arrival plays a critical role in our overall growth plan,” said Louis W. Beardell, Jr., leader of Morgan Lewis’s global IP practice. “Tim’s presence will immediately enhance the planned expansion of our European/UK team and contribute to the synergies with our already strong IP litigation practice in the United States.”
“In a time when biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and other life science technologies are at the center of innovation, Tim’s representation of clients in some of the most significant recent IP disputes in the United Kingdom and Europe makes him an invaluable addition to our team,” said London Office Managing Partner Nick Bolter. “Tim’s deep-rooted industry connections and technical background further position our firm to help clients traverse the complex patent issues that lie ahead.”
Tim’s arrival to Morgan Lewis in London enhances the firm’s ability to serve clients in a competitive UK and European patent litigation landscape. As noted above, other significant additions to the firm’s global IP platform include partners Hiroshi Sheraton, who joined the firm in London in September, and Dr. Alexander Klett and Dr. Christoph Mikyska, who joined the firm in Munich in July.
