Theresa A.G. Staley joins Dykema as Senior Counsel of the Government Policy and Practice Group and Energy Industry Group.

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Theresa A.G. Staley as a Senior Counsel in the firm’s Government Policy and Practice Group and Energy Industry Group resident in the firm’s Lansing office. Staley joins Dykema after serving as a Regulatory Attorney with Consumers Energy.

With more than 26 years of experience, Staley’s practice focuses on administrative, energy, environmental, public utility, and telecommunications law. During her time with Consumers Energy, she advised and represented the utility company in complex matters before the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).

Theresa’s experience in environmental and energy law also includes four years as an Administrative Law Judge conducting hearings involving contested cases before the MPSC and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. She also mediated disputes between utilities and customers.

Prior to becoming an Administrative Law Judge, Staley was in private practice and routinely represented clients in a wide range of litigation matters, prepared drilling title opinions for oil and gas clients, and assisted in statutory pooling proceedings for oil and gas clients. She also has experience representing clients in obtaining and transferring liquor licenses and assisting and representing clients in estate planning and probate law.

“We are thrilled to have Theresa join the firm and look forward to leaning on her vast experience to assist our energy clients,” said Jason Hanselman, Managing Member of Dykema’s Lansing office. “Those of us who practiced before Judge Staley when she was at the MPSC or worked with her on utility matters in prior roles welcome her thoughtful insight and knowledge of Michigan energy law and the MPSC’s practices and procedures.”

Staley earned a J.D., cum laude, from the Michigan State University College of Law and a B.A., magna cum laude, in English, Communications & Business Administration from Aquinas College.
