The Texas Housing Justice League (THJL) was recently formed to help address injustices and inequities in Texas housing. THJL's mission is to inform the public about housing issues, with a primary emphasis on the housing problems and barriers that affect the poor and impoverished.
Among its other virtues, THJL will have standing as an organization to prosecute cases on behalf of the interests of its members, particularly in suits for injunctive relief. Led by volunteer executive director Robert Doggett, THJL will work on housing issues affecting low-income Texans such as abusive homeowner association rules, oppressive property tax schemes, severe housing conditions, predatory lending practices, improper evictions, illegal foreclosures, lease-to-own scams, and defective titles from contracts for deed.
