The State Bar of Texas has scheduled The Changing Face of Water Rights for Thursday and Friday, April 8 and 9, at the Sheraton Austin Hotel in Austin.
On Wednesday April 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the bar will present an evening session, also at the Sheraton Austin, titled Water Rights Law 101.
The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Among the speakers and topics are a Legislative Update with Bruce Wasinger, general counsel, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority; Water Development Board: Financing and Programs with Sen. Kip Averitt, the Texas State Senate, Dist. 22; and an Overview of the GMA Process with Gregory Ellis, executive director, Texas Alliance of Groundwater Districts.
On Friday, Greg Graml, the Lower Colorado River Authority, and Leonard H. Dougal, Jackson Walker L.L.P., will discuss Water Rights Enforcement and Drought Management. The Friday luncheon presentation by Gabriel E. Eckstein, Texas Tech School of Law, is titled Water Ethics: What is Your Role as a Lawyer, and Mark McPherson, McPherson Lawfirm, will present Water Supply for Land Development: Dealing with Water Utilities and Environmental Flows That Affect Water Rights.
