State Bar Of Texas Offers Two-DayCivil Appellate Practice Course

The State Bar of Texas has scheduled a two-day Advanced Civil Appellate Practice Course for Thursday and Friday, September 2 and 3.

It will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, 98 San Jacinto Blvd. in Austin. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Highlights of the course include Supreme Court Trends and Statistics; a Supreme Court Judges' Panel; Appealing Bench Trials (findings of facts, conclusions of law); and the Future of Oral Argument. On Thursday, Karen S. Precella, Haynes and Boone, LLP, will present Recent Developments in Mandamus, and a panel will present Changes in Pattern Jury Charges, including Hon. Jeffrey V. Brown, 14th Court of Appeals; J. Brett Busby, Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP; Hon. Tracy E. Christopher, also 14th Court of Appeals; and Jeffrey S. Levinger, Hankinson Levinger LLP.

On Friday, Benjamin L. Mesches, Haynes and Boone, LLP, will discuss Federal and State Jury Charge, and Hon. Scott A. Brister, former justice, Supreme Court of Texas and partner of Andrews Kurth LLP, will offer a Texas Supreme Court Update. Chad Baruch, The Law Office of Chad Baruch, will discuss brief writing, and a discussion about Practicing Law and Wellness: Modern Strategies for Lawyers Dealing with Anxiety, Addiction and Depression will end the day.

Participants may arrive a day early for Civil Appellate Practice 101 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
