State Bar Of Texas HoldsAnnual Minority Counsel Program

The State Bar of Texas has scheduled its 18th Annual Texas Minority Counsel Program for three days in September.

On September 1 to 3, it will be held at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.

The event begins with a golf tournament on Wednesday, September 1, at 1:00 p.m. Attendees can also opt for networking time at the spa on Wednesday afternoon, and all TMCP registrants are invited to join the golfers and spa-goers for an indoor/outdoor reception from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The conference begins at 8:45 on Thursday morning. The keynote luncheon presentation, a General Counsel/ Managing Partner panel moderated by Werten Bellamy, president, Stakeholders, Inc., will include the following panelists: Jerry K. Clements, managing partner, Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP; Karen Ripley, CLO, MillerCoors; and Larry D. Thompson, senior vice president, government affairs, general counsel & secretary, PepsiCo, Inc. The awards presentation will follow and will honor the 2010 TMCP Sponsors and the Corporate Counsel of the Year. This award is presented to the corporate counsel who has done the most to open doors for Texas minority and women attorneys by promoting diversity within his/her department or company and by consistently hiring minority and women attorneys in private practice to perform legal work on behalf of his/her company.

On Thursday afternoon, breakout session with two tracks - Labor & Employment and Internal Investigations/FCPA - will run from 1:30 to 3:45 p.m., and two new optional presentations, the Benefits of Certification and Client Development Training, will be offered from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a networking reception, dine-arounds, and a Party in the Pavilion.

On Friday, the sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a Supreme Court Update by Hon. Dale Wainwright, justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. A session called Using Social Media will follow, and then the entertaining Ethics Folliewritten and directed by Lee Cusenbary, general counsel of Mission Pharmacal Company, will be performed.

A panel titled What In-House Counsel Want from Outside Counsel with speakers Cheryl B. Barber, attorney, USAA; Joseph K. West, associate general counsel, Outside Counsel Management, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; and Randall J. White, associate general counsel, American Airlines, will wrap up the program.
