State Bar Of Texas Examines The Bill Of Rights

On Friday, May 27, the State Bar of Texas will offer the Bill of Rights Course in Austin.

It will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Texas Law Center, 1414 Colorado Street.

Cosponsored by the Individual Rights and Responsibilities and the LGBT Sections of the state bar,the course will examine the following issues:U.S. and Texas Supreme Court update on constitutional cases; constitutional amendment concerning birth-right citizenship; controversial issues in First Amendment rights; "crimmigration" and other civil rights issues impacting citizens and non-citizens alike; the Texas Bill of Rights; and financial aid to religious institutions. A panel to examine the Citizens United campaign finance case will be moderated by Hiram Sasser, Liberty Legal Institute, and a state judge's panel will include Hon. Wallace B. Jefferson, chief justice, Supreme Court of Texas and Hon. Cheryl Johnson, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
