Society Of Corporate Secretaries Regional Fall Conference In NYC

The Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals will hold its 2010 Regional Fall Conference on Wednesday, September 29 through Friday, October 1.

This year's venue is the Time Warner Headquarters at One Time Warner Center in New York City. The regional conference is for chapters in New York, Eastern New England, Fairfield-Westchester, Hartford, Ohio and the Tri-State and Pittsburgh areas. The theme for the event is Dawn of a New Day in Corporate Governance.

The conference will open with a welcome reception on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The tentative agenda is sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday and the conference adjourns at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.

Corporate governance is dramatically changing. The Dodd-Frank Act and related regulations, the SEC concept release on proxy plumbing, proxy access rules and the new disclosure requirements have now dramatically altered the corporate landscape. Participants will learn of the changes and what this new landscape means for corporate governance professionals who need to be prepared for the upcoming proxy season.

The conference will offer best practices from leaders in the field and opportunities for timely, interactive discussion with representatives from the SEC, institutional investors and leaders in corporate governance.

A 2010 Proxy Season Overview will be presented by Daniel H. Burch, chairman and CEO of Mackenzie Partners Inc.; Beth Ising, partner, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP; David K. McHugh, senior vice president, Northern Trust Corporation; and Alice Givens, J. Crew Group, Inc.

Other topics include How to Prepare for Say on Pay; Enforcement Update: and a Spotlight on FCPA with speakersHye-Won Choi, senior vice president and head of Corporate Governance, TIAA-CREF and Nancy Boswell, CEO and president, Transparency International U.S.

The keynote speaker is Meredith Cross, the SEC director of the Division of Corporation Finance, who will speak about the SEC's rulemaking initiatives.
