Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals Plan Three-Day Seminar In Florida

The Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals has scheduled their annual Essentials seminar, The Basics of Corporate Governance and Beyond, for late January. It will be held at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort, 4401 Grand Floridian Way in Orlando, from Wednesday to Friday, January 27 to 29.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Basics portion of the program will examine the responsibilities and purposes of the corporate secretary's office, including practical solutions and advice to help corporate secretaries and their staff in these challenging times. It is designed for anyone who is new in the functions of the corporate secretary's office or for anyone who wants to brush up on the basics. On Friday, the seminar will focus on general governance and compliance challenges.

Some of the topics that will be discussedin the Basics portion are The Basic and Not-So-Basic Role of the Corporate Secretary - Traditional Responsibilities and New Challenges; Managing and Supporting Your Board; Basic Challenges when Dealing with the Regulators; Understanding and Managing Your Shareholder; and The Shareholder Meeting: Your Most Visible and Vulnerable Event.

Beyond the Basics begins on Thursday with Disclosure, Good Governance in Private and Non-Profit Companies; New Challenges in Shareholder Voting; and e-Corporate Governance.

On Thursday, the luncheon speaker will be Mauri Osheroff, associate director, Regulatory Policy, U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.

Special membership offer: Nonmembers attending two to three days of the seminar are eligible to take advantage of a special membership tuition package. Participants pay an additional $195 to the nonmember tuition rate if from a company without members, and they pay an additional $125 to the nonmember tuition rate if from a company with members.
