Social Media Risks Explored In LA Panel Discussion

On Thursday, May 19, the Los Angeles County Bar Association will offer a panel discussion with experienced technology law practitioners, both external and in-house, and regulators to cut through the hype over social media risks. Social Media and the Law: More Guidance, Less Hype, will run from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the bar association, 1055 West 7th Street in Los Angeles.

Tanya L. Forsheit, founding partner of InfoLawGroup LLP, will moderate the discussion, which will explore the following topics: the laws and guidance, federal and state, that may be implicated by corporate, employee, and consumer use of social media; recent guidance from the FTC and proposed legislation for online behavioral marketing and the use of endorsements online; practical strategies for organizations to mitigate the risks associated with social media use for marketing; and the key components of effective social media policies. The panelists will also explore a hypothetical dilemma in the social media space facing corporate counsel and regulators.

Panelists are Alan L. Friel, Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon LLP; Catherine C. Harrington-McBride, FTC; and Jennifer Mardosz, Fox Entertainment Group.
