Seminar Will Outline Basics Of DC Nonprofit Law

The DC Bar Association will present a CLE seminar titled A Primer on Nonprofit Law in the District of Columbia.

The program will take place on Friday, November 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1250 H Street, NW, Washington, DC.

This course will cover basic District of Columbia nonprofit corporation law and will highlight duties and responsibilities of directors with some emphasis on restrictions on federal employees serving as board members. In addition, faculty will provide an overview of federal and District legal issues involving obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status, and the benefits and detriments of tax-exempt status. The course also will cover nonprofit concerns relating to postal regulations, raffles and gambling, zoning and certificates of occupancy and homeland security.

Among the speakers will be Ira S. Kaye, associate general counsel, U.S. Office of Government Ethics; Maxine Hinson, DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, and Peter C. Wolk, National Center for Nonprofit Law.
