Seminar Will Offer Advice In Settling Employment Cases

Massachusetts CLE has scheduled a CLE seminar titled Practical Tips for Negotiating & Settling an Employment Case.

The program will take place on Thursday, January 31 from 11 to 5 p.m. at the MCLE Conference Center, 10 Winter Place, Boston.

Participants can expect to learn: how to use plain English to write what you mean - and have real people (not just lawyers) understand it; how to draft and negotiate a severance agreement that will avoid litigation; what the different types of settlement strategies are, from positional bargaining to "win-win" negotiating; how to get your clients - management or employee - to the table, and how to keep them there; how to negotiate the most favorable settlement agreement, and how to avoid common settlement pitfalls; what are the mechanics of the settlement agreement - who drafts, who pays and when, and how the amounts are apportioned, and how to draft settlement agreements that reduce the risk of misunderstandings and further litigation.

The program chair is Jay Shepherd, Shepherd Law Group.
