Seminar Focus: Nonprofits In Texas

The University of Texas School of Law is planning its 25th Annual Nonprofit Organizations Institute.

The program will take place Wednesday-Friday, January 16-18 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Austin, TX. Sessions will run from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. on the first day, 8:50 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on the second day and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the third day.

Discussion topics will include: Primer on Nonprofit Organizations and Charitable Giving; The Rules: GAAP That Specifically Applies to Nonprofit Organizations; New IRS Focus on Nonprofit Corporate Governance; Overview of the Pension Protection Act; Innovative Ways for Private Foundations to Give Money: Staying Within the Rules and Avoiding Pitfalls; Case Studies Exploring Self-Dealing; Risk Management: Best Practices for Public Charities; Nonprofit Fundraising: A Guide to Staying Within the State and Federal Rules, and Ethical Issues for Lawyers Serving Nonprofit Organizations.

Among the speakers will be Johnny Rex Buckles, University of Houston Law Center; David L. Fish, IRS; Emily A. Parker and David M. Rosenberg, Thompson & Knight LLP, and Kenneth L. Gladish, Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership.
