Seminar Focus: How To Win Cases In Federal Court

The New York County Lawyers' Association (NYCLA) this month is planning a CLE seminar titled Winning Cases in Federal Court.

The two-part program will take place on Tuesdays, May 15 and 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. each day at the NYCLA Home of Law, 14 Vesey Street, New York City.

Discussion topics will include: the strategic issues to consider in commencing an action in federal court and in responding to a complaint (including answers and motions to dismiss, transfer); when and how to move for summary judgment, and how to defeat a summary judgment motion; strategies and techniques for winning a trial in federal court; what discovery is required, what is permitted and how to handle discovery disputes; electronic discovery; how to prepare for, take and defend depositions, and how to handle discovery concerning expert witnesses.

The program co-chairs are Joel M. Silverman, Stern & Kilcullen, and the Hon. Kevin P. Castel, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Among other speakers are Arthur H. Aufsees, Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP; Scott M. Berman, Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP, and Bruce Green, professor, Fordham University Law School.
