Seminar Focus: Discrimination Against Women In Legal Profession

The Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) this month has scheduled another session in its Public Policy Series titled Sex Discrimination in the Legal Profession.

The program will take place on Friday, January 26 from noon to 2 p.m. at the CLE Conference Center, Wanamaker Building, Juniper Street, Philadelphia. The session also will be presented live via videoconference at the PBI Conference Center, 5080 Ritter Road, Mechanicsburg, PA.

This seminar will explore litigation and legislative strategies employed by 19th century women to surmount the barriers to legal training, their thwarted expectations of the early 20th century, the postfeminist phase of 1930-1970, and the extraordinary changes commencing in the 1970s. The presentation will explore the suggested feminization of the profession and the reality of its success in the context of the economic and competitive constraints within which the law profession must operate.

Speakers will be Marina Angel, professor, Temple University School of Law, and Audrey Wolfson Latourette, professor of law, Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
