San Francisco Bar Schedules Subprime Seminar

The San Francisco Bar Association has scheduled a seminar titled Subprime Debacle and the Debate about Fair Value Accounting for Thursday, August 7.

The seminar will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the BASF Conference Center, 301 Battery Street, San Francisco.

Issues for discussion include how subprime mortgages became investments held by corporations and institutional investors; what fair value is and how it relates to the huge write-downs in assets held by banks and institutional investors; how the write-downs exacerbated the liquidity risks and counterparty risks in the financial markets; and current arguments for and against fair-value accounting.

The scheduled speakers are Monica Ip and Greg Regan, both of Hemming Morse, Inc.
