San Diego Bar To Discuss Trial Publicity

The San Diego County Bar Association has scheduled an evening CLE event titled Trial Publicity: Beyond the Headlines, What Can You Ethically Say About Your Big Case? for Thursday, May 7,at the Bar Center, 1333 Seventh Avenue, San Diego.

The program will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and light refreshments will be provided. It will address the specific legal and ethical rules that govern what lawyers can legally and ethically say to the press about their big case. It will cover permissible statements in and out of the courtroom and the ethical resources you may have in responding to unfair adverse publicity, and it will do this from the perspective of the media.

The faculty will include media star and councilwoman Marti Emerald (she was the consumer advocate, or troubleshooter, at San Diego's ABC television affiliate for 22 years), Council District 7; Randy Grossman, partner, Jones Day; Erin P. Penning, DLA Piper; and Wendy Patrick Mazzarella, deputy district attorney, San Diego District Attorney's Office.
