Holland & Knight welcomes Ryan Phelps as a partner in the Tax, Executive Compensation and Benefits Practice Group in Houston. Most recently, Mr. Phelps was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis.
Mr. Phelps' practice focuses on the tax aspects of complex domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, tax-free spinoffs, restructurings, public offerings and other financings. He also advises clients on structuring, formation and investment in U.S. and international private equity, real estate and continuation funds. Much of his tax practice has some form of energy component, including oil and gas as renewables.
"Ryan is a seasoned tax practitioner whose experience lends itself well to the types of work generated by our Houston and Dallas transactional practices," said Mark Melton, co-leader of Holland & Knight's Tax, Executive Compensation and Benefits Practice Group. "As our work in the energy sector increases, Ryan can help satisfy client needs and reduce the demand on our more senior partners. We are thrilled to have him on our team."
"I'm excited to join Holland & Knight and be part of an established and vibrant practice, both locally and nationally," said Mr. Phelps. "Holland & Knight is a market leader in the tax space, and I hope to help build on that reputation and grow the practice even further."
Mr. Phelps earned a J.D. degree from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law and a B.B.A. degree from Northeastern State University.
