Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce that Robert M. Lamkin has joined the Global Energy Group as a partner in Washington, DC and New York, expanding the firm’s already strong capabilities to advise clients on wholesale and retail energy trading and broader energy transactional and regulatory matters.
As a highly experienced and well-rounded energy attorney, Mr. Lamkin represents energy trading firms, electric power generators, renewables project developers and other energy industry participants in a range of transactions. In his energy practice, Mr. Lamkin supports clients in negotiating structured physical and financial hedging and other structured energy transactions. He also advises on energy management agreements, asset management agreements and other agreements related to power production and energy trading.

In the regulatory realm, Mr. Lamkin also provides legal counsel to clients in a variety of federal and state regulatory matters, including issues arising under the Federal Power Act, the Public Utility Holding Company Act, the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act and the Commodity Exchange Act. His regulatory background also provides a strong foundation for his transactional representations.

Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Lamkin was a partner on the Energy team at McDermott Will & Emery. Earlier in his career, he served as in-house counsel for the energy trading and marketing affiliate at a privately-held financial institution, where he focused on a variety of matters, including negotiating all domestic, European and United Kingdom energy trading documentation for electricity, natural gas, weather and derivatives products, and overseeing Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), energy market, Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) and reliability compliance.
