Prominent Energy Projects Partner Elias Hinckley to join Baker Botts in Washington, D.C.

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Elias Hinckley has joined its Global Projects Department as a partner in Washington, D.C.

Hinckley’s practice focuses on structuring deals in the energy, tax, and financial areas. He advises on tax and deal structuring and tax policy for renewable energy companies, private equity funds and portfolio companies, hedge funds, tax equity investors, real estate investors, independent power companies and utilities.

He was previously a partner at K&L Gates.

“Elias is an outstanding addition to our Global Projects Department and will be instrumental in strengthening our leadership in energy transition work,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “He brings a wealth of experience in tax equity and project finance that is essential to our clients in the renewables and low-carbon energy spaces.”

“Elias will boost our expertise and market depth in structuring transactions and advising clients on projects that rely on tax equity as part of their core financing arrangements,” said Jason Bennett, firmwide Department Chair of Baker Botts’ Global Projects Practice as well as a co-head of its firmwide Energy Sector leadership. “His arrival will help us further capitalize on work arising from the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act, which we expect will accelerate the pace of development of carbon capture and clean hydrogen and ammonia projects. This has been and will remain a busy practice area for us.”

“I am thrilled to join Baker Botts,” Hinckley said. “Not only has the firm been historically regarded as a leading advisor to the energy industry, it’s also a key player in the fast-growing energy transition space.”

Hinckley earned an L.L.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, a J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts.

The Global Projects team at Baker Botts is composed of lawyers skilled in various complementary practices that offer clients the range of legal skills and experience needed for sophisticated and complex energy and infrastructure projects and transactions around the world.
