Preventing Law Firm Disputes ExaminedIn Upcoming Texas Seminar

A one-day program titled Lawyer and Law Firm Disputes: Problems and Prevention is the topic for an upcoming seminar sponsored by the State Bar of Texas on Friday, September 17.

It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel, 1717 N. Akard Street in Dallas.

Designed for law firm general counsel, managing partners, partners charged with risk management, members of the executive committee and other senior firm managers, law firm administrators, and any lawyer considering firm changes, this new course will give attendees access to experts on law firm lawsuits and lawyer mobility issues, including de-equitization and other issues related to law firm changes; lessons from litigators who represent lawyers in intra-firm disputes;the pitfalls of practicing law in a Texas LLP; and discrimination claims against law firms.

Keynote speaker Robert W. Hillman, professor of law, fair business practices and investor advocacy chair, University of California, Davis, will discuss Avoiding Litigation Related to Law Firm Break-ups and Lawyer Mobility, and W. Mark Lanier, founder and lead litigation counsel of the Lanier Law Firm, will offer the luncheon presentation - Lawyers as Defendants. Other speakers include Paul M. Koning, K&L Gates; Charles Szalkowski, Baker Botts L.L.P.; and Elizabeth S. Miller, professor, Baylor University School of Law.
