The Practising Law Institute has invited a distinguished faculty to discuss and debate the leading decisions of the 2007 Supreme Court Term at the Tenth Annual Supreme Court Review. It will be held on Tuesday, August 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the PLI Center, 810 Seventh Avenue at 53rd Street, New York City.
The Supreme Court's 2007 Term includes many highly significant cases involving clashes between individual and government interests, including the rights of enemy combatants, voting rights, and the Second Amendment right to bear arms. The Court's plenary docket has several important criminal procedure cases - the death penalty, the Fourth Amendment exclusionary rule, and sentencing. The Court will also decide cases concerning freedom of speech, federalism, business interests, civil rights litigation and the supremacy clause.
The presenters include Professor Derrick A. Bell, New York University School of Law; Joan Biskupic, Supreme Court Correspondent, USA Today; Professor Susan N. Herman, Brooklyn Law School, and Carter G. Phillips, Sidley Austin LLP, who has litigated 59 cases before the Supreme Court.
A simultaneous live webcast of the session will be made available. Webcast participants will have the ability to submit questions electronically.
