PLI And PBI Presentation Focuses On Entertainment Industry Law

The Practising Law Institute in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Bar Institute are holding a three-day "Combo" series of programs for lawyers who work within the different specialties of the entertainment industry.

The program will be held Monday through Wednesday, March 15-17. Interested attorneys may choose to take one or more of the segments or attend the entire program. It will be streamed live to PBI's Conference Center at the Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia, the PBI Professional Development Center at 339 Sixth Avenue in Pittsburgh, and the Cleveland Bar Association at 1301 East 9th Street in Cleveland.

Day one will focus on television, video, video games, user-generated content, computer entertainment, and how to build an entertainment law practice.Notable speakers for Monday include David P. White, interim national executive director, Screen Actors Guild and Brian L. Burkin, executive vice president, Sony Pictures Entertainment, who will discuss emerging trends in video, television and the hot topic of user-generated content. Monday's sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. and include a cocktail reception sponsored by SESAC.

Tuesday's session will focus on sound recordings and the music publishing industry.Expert speakers Linda A. Newmark, executive vice president, Universal Music Publishing Group and Jeff Walker, executive vice president, Columbia/Epic Label Group will address the current issues and trends in the recording industry, including digital distribution of sound recordings. The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and adjourn at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wednesday's program will focus on book publishing, union and guild issues, and film. Attendees will learn the ins and outs of publishing agreements, motion picture union issues dominating the headlines, and the advanced film issues involving the financing, production and distribution of motion pictures. Speakers will include industry insiders John Schline, senior vice president, Penguin Group (USA); Gail Ross, Lichtman, Trister and Ross, The Gail Ross Literary Agency; and David P. White, interim national executive director, Screen Actors Guild.
