Oregon Bar Examines Civil Rights And Discrimination

On Tuesday, February 2, the Oregon State Bar is holding a video replay - An Eye on Civil Rights: A State and Federal Update on Discrimination.

The live video replay begins at 9 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m. It will be located at the Oregon State Bar Center, 16037 SW Upper Boones Ferry Road, Tigard, Oregon.

The distinguished faculty includes BOLI (Bureau of Labor and Industries) Commissioner Bradley Avakian and the Oregon Attorney General, John Kroger.Attendees will examine a variety of civil rights topics and learn of the most current information on civil rights and discrimination issues in both federal and state courts.

The faculty will review the history of civil rights enforcement in Oregon and BOLI's role in enforcement and developments. A legal ethics section will examine multiple-plaintiff and class action litigation relating to discrimination and other violations of civil rights. The program will provide updates on the amendments to the Act and to the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as the Oregon Tort Claims Act. It will wrap up with two interesting sessions, one focusing on military and veterans' affairs addressing civil rights issues for former and current service members, and a discussion comparing federal civil rights laws under the Bush and Obama administrations.
