The New York County Lawyers' Association has scheduled the third lecture in its three-part series about Race, Law, and Education.
The program will be held at NYCLA, 14 Vesey Street, the 2nd Floor Auditorium, New York on Tuesday, December 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The first two parts in this series were held in October.
Speaker Gloria J. Browne-Marshall, author of Race, Law, and American Society: 1607 to Present and an associate professor of constitutional law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, will offer an updated version of her lecture series on race and law. Although the series was planned before the recent incident with Henry Gates, that confrontation reminds us that issues of discrimination are part of America's past and present. Professor Browne-Marshall will chronicle the denial of equal protection of the law in the criminal justice system, educational opportunities, and voting rights, and she will recount numerous instances, including recent Supreme Court decisions, that perpetuate the subordination of African Americans.
