Join the New York County Lawyers Association on Tuesday, August 30, for a breakfast program titled Ethical Approaches to Preparing or Coaching the Witness. It begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. at NYCLA, 14 Vesey Street in New York City.
The issue of how zealous an attorney can be when preparing a witness for trial continues to be important, especially in light of the new New York Rules of Professional Conduct, which became effective in April, 2009.
The seminar will use an interactive technique and video clips from popular films, and the panel of experts will discuss the boundaries of proper witness preparation, how much contact or coaching is too much, limits on prosecutor preparation of witnesses, and whether attorneys can compensate witnesses for their time. Film clips include scenes from The Verdict; Philadelphia; and Anatomy of a Murder.
