NYC Conference Looks At The Entertainment Industry

On Monday through Wednesday, March 14-16, the Practising Law Institute will offer a program examining the latest trends in entertainment law titled Counseling Clients in the Entertainment Industry 2011.

The seminar will be atPLI's New York Conference Center at 810 Seventh Avenue in New York City.On Monday it will run from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Tuesday and Wednesday it will run from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Day one will provide attendees with an overview of entertainment law issues relating to television, video and user-generated content, and theater. The speakers include Brian L. Burkin, executive vice president of Sony Pictures Entertainment; Julie Wolf, vice president, Discovery Communications, LLC; and Alison Cohen, head of business affairs, FilmNation Entertainment, LLC.

Day two will look at the sound recording and music publishing industry and developments in the laws regarding artist-record company agreements and digital distribution of sound recordings. The presenters are Linda A. Newmark, executive vice president, Universal Music Publishing Group, and Julie Swidler, executive vice president, Sony Music Entertainment.

The final day will focus on book publishing and sports law and provide an overview of book publishing agreements and developments in the publishing industry, followed by important issues and hot topics in the area of sports law.The faculty includes John Schline, senior vice president, Penguin Group (USA); Gail Ross, Lichtman, Trister and Ross PLLC; and Benjamin J. Lynch, retired NFL player.
