NYC Bar Association And Fordham Law Collaborate On International Law Weekend

The New York City Bar and Fordham Law's Leitner Center are hosting a series of events on Thursday, October 20, through Saturday, October 22, celebrating International Law Weekend (ILW).

On Thursday, events will be held at the NYC Bar Association at 42 West 44th Street. On Friday and Saturday seminars will be held at Fordham Law's Leitner Center at 33 West 60th Street.

The three-day conference will explore the intersection of international rules and norms and domestic politics and policymaking. The conference will examine to what extent international standards influence the application and interpretation of national law including the complementary or countervailing policies sought by domestic policymakers, non-governmental actors and/or civil society. Expert panels and discussion sessions will probe these and other issues with regard to such diverse areas as human rights and humanitarian intervention, national security, trade, labor, health care and the environment.

The co-chairs of the ILW are Martin S. Flaherty, professor of law and co-director of the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham University School of Law; Sahra Diament of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs; and Jill Schmieder Hereau, program coordinator, International Law Students Association.
