NYC Bar Announces Winners Of The 23rd Annual Legal Service Awards

The New York City Bar Association has named four legal services attorneys and one non-attorney as recipients of the Twenty-third Annual Legal Services Awards, which give recognition to attorneys and non-attorneys who provide outstanding civil legal assistance to New York's poor.

This year’s recipients are Tracey Bing, Family Law/Domestic Violence Unit, Manhattan Legal Services; Jane Sujen Bock, Homeless Rights Project, The Legal Aid Society; Nelson Gutièrrez, Elderly Project, Volunteers of Legal Service; Leah Margulies, Law Help/NY Project; and Ivy Suriyopas, Anti-Trafficking Initiative, Asian American Legal Defense & Education Fund.

The City Bar will also present a special recognition to the late Michael Rothenberg for his outstanding work as executive director of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest.

Awards this year were presented by Hon. Theodore Jones, judge of the New York Court of Appeals. They are administered by the Special Committee on the Legal Services Awards, chaired by William T. Russell, Jr., and are sponsored by the Committee on Pro Bono and Legal Services, chaired by Stacey O’Haire Fahey. The awards have been endowed by a generous contribution from the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation.
