Nicholas Dancey has joined McGuireWoods’ global real estate practice as a partner in Atlanta, bringing experience advising investors, lenders and developers in complex transactions.
Dancey represents real estate funds, pension funds, life insurance companies, lenders and developers in domestic and international transactions, including financings, acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures involving all asset classes.
Dancey joins McGuireWoods from Kirkland & Ellis. He previously was a partner at an Am Law 100 firm and spent six years as senior vice president and general counsel at Quadrant Real Estate Advisors. At Quadrant, he was responsible for the closing and asset management of real estate transactions in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
“Nick brings an impressive track record of executing sophisticated transactions, as an in-house lawyer and as a partner in Am Law 100 firms,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of McGuireWoods’ corporate practice.
Dancey has represented some of the nation’s largest developers in over $1.5 billion of construction financings, and has designed and implemented a real estate investment platform exceeding $1 billion for a foreign pension fund for investments into Europe.
“Nick is an accomplished and trusted deal adviser whose experience complements the work we do for clients nationally and in Europe,” said Dennis Mensi, chair of the firm’s Real Estate & Land Use Department.
Dancey is the second partner to join the firm’s Atlanta office this year, following the recent arrival of environmental enforcement litigator Adam Sowatzka.
“We are delighted to welcome Nick and excited about the continued expansion of our client service capabilities in Atlanta,” said Chris Greene, managing partner of the Atlanta office.
McGuireWoods’ Real Estate & Land Use Department handles matters across the United States and abroad, and represents real estate investors and developers, financial institutions, Fortune 100 companies and other businesses. The firm earned Tier 1 national rankings for land use and zoning law, real estate law and real estate litigation in the 2023 U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms” report.
“McGuireWoods has a talented team with knowledge on all sides of real estate transactions,” Dancey said. “I look forward to putting my experience to work for the firm and our clients.”
