The Ethics and Professionalism Section of the NYSBA announces a two-part seminar focused on ethics.The seminar will be held on Thursday, November 12 at the New York Hotel Pennsylvania, 401 Seventh Avenue in New York City.It will run from 8:30 a.m. through 12:25 p.m.
The first part of the session will focus on the Appellate Divisions adopted new Rules of Professional Conduct, which put New York's disciplinary rules into the model rule format that is used throughout the nation. The new rules contain substantive changes, and attendees will learn the highlights of the changes contained in the new rules and the provisions of the existing code.
The second part of this program will focus on ethics and professionalism on the big screen. Participants will view film clips from major motion pictures depicting attorneys and the ethical and professional dilemmas they face. This format will feature discussions by a panel of the issues raised in three Paul Newman movies - The Verdict, The Young Philadelphians and Absence of Malice.
The speakers and panelists include James M. Altman, Bryan Cave LLP, Hon. Carolyn Demarest, Kings County Supreme Court, Brooklyn, New York and Andrea E. Tomaino, Attorney Grievance Committee, Rochester, New York.
